…and to finish of the reprise of 2011 while I am away in Antarctica here are some images that Tumblrites liked
BH11 04 One of the few remaining traditional shops in the Bhutan’s capital Thimphu which I will leave today. The capitals population has more than doubled in the last decade. It’s been interesting to move about Thimphu without the responsibilities of a tour for a few days, take time for my own images and think through options for future expeditions.

BH 25 ….and a final image for this series of the fading light at the end our accent to Bumdra. The gods own country…..
When I get a chance in 2012 I will work on a series from a wonderfully intimate festival we visited but for now thats all from Bhutan.
We are in the process of planning photography tours for Oct/Nov 2012. Leave your name here if you want more information when it’s finalised end January. Last year the trip filled in a few days so its worth putting your name down.

BH 24 I will end this Bhutan series for now with a week of images I find most personally interesting sometimes despite their technical imperfections. This last kitchen scene is our friend Namgay’s mum back home in the house she misses after a week visiting family in the capital and always finds a reason to return to. The simple kitchen where life happens in Bhutan and the wonderful family shrine rooms seem to me to say a lot about this countries value and integrity.

BH20 Taktshang from above on the way down from Bumdra This week is from the top of our little trek at Bumdra itself. Bumdra means ‘the rock of a thousand footprints’. The name refers to it being visited by 100,00 dakinis. It has also been visited by an emanation of the goddess Tara during the 11th century.

BH11 15 The last of a week of forest images from the hike up to Bumdra. Sometimes I think in terms of ‘seeing the forest for the trees’ , that bits of trees gives more of a feeling than the whole. So here are some detail images. This is of snow caught and frozen in the trees
